Fireworks!

So I went a little crazy over fireworks this weekend and saw three shows. First time taking fireworks photos with my D70, wasn't really sure about the settings and stuff, but I think I'm getting the hang of it now ^_^ Too bad I didn't have a remote, so a lot of the photos were still a little shaky.

First round was at Fair Park on Saturday. We wanted to listen to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, but got there a little late. Apparently the entire city showed up and we had to park really really far away. By the time we got there, the show was already starting, I barely had time to set up my camera, and there was a bridge in my way. The show also lasted for like... 15 minutes only, so I only got about 15-20 shots off.

Second set was taken at a friend's house in The Colony. We got back from the lake and were just resting, and someone heard fireworks going off in the distance. It was pretty nice since we could see it from their backyard, but then again, there were roofs in the way and I didn't have a tripod. So all my pictures were very... abstract :P

Third set... took my sister to the Plano show July 4th night. The weather forecast said thunderstorm, so we weren't sure if we were going to see anything, but the rain stopped around the time the show was about to start. We kinda got confused about where the fireworks were launching from and didn't get a very good spot, but at least I had time to set up my tripod correctly and the pix turned out much better.

hi there

Ooops... Forgot about here.....

I've been back for over a week, and I'm still incredibly jetlagged!  As you can see, I'm blogging at 3AM, and this is when I woke up (after a full 12 hrs of sleep too!).

Oh yeah, by "back", I mean from my Japan/Korea trip.

Another month and half to go before I start working and I have absolutely no plans.  Maybe I should find a part time job :P  I honestly think they should give the signing bonus to me when I sign up to work for them, instead of when work actually starts @_@

Think I'll brush up on my Japanese so I can prepare for the JLPT exam at the end of the year.  It's sort of like... TOEFL for Japan.  Hmm... I guess not that many ppl know what that is either :P

So... while I'm doing that... I finished watching Season 1 of Desperate Housewives and am now onto Lost.  Haven't really caught the World Cup action this year for some reason.  Hmm, perhaps cuz NBA playoffs have been so disappointing???

I think my English is degenerating and my Chinese is getting better and better.  That's a very frightening thought.

This was fun :)

  • You are practical and pay attention to the details that others tend to miss.

  • By focusing on what is real and concrete, you achieve more than those who always have their heads in the clouds.

  • When it comes to what really matters in your life, you are confident in your ability to succeed.

  • Having beautiful things in your life gives you pleasure and satisfaction - you have a keen eye for style.

  • Even when problems present themselves, deep down you know you will overcome these challenges.

  • When routines get too familiar, you become bored and start looking for ways to spice things up.

  • You are open to new types of experiences ¨C you are not afraid to take a risk on something new.

  • You have a highly developed sense of taste ¨C you know what looks good on you, in your home, and in the world at large.

  • You approach problems in an analytical way, not getting caught up in your own emotions. You are an independent thinker, not wedded to the preferences of others.

  • Generally, you believe that you control your life, and that external forces only play a limited role in determining what happens to you.

  • You don't mind being in the spotlight, preferring social gatherings to quiet nights at home.

  • You take a practical approach to people, not getting too involved in their feelings¡ªor their business.

  • Although you have a wide circle of friends, you're very discerning as to whom you can trust.

  • You're not rigid in your beliefs about the world, and you don't want to impose your perspective on others, but at the same time, you know that plenty of people don't always act responsibly.

  • Engaging with others is a large part of how you live in the world, and most importantly, it plays a role in how you see yourself¡ªyou tend to learn a lot about yourself in situations where you are with other people.

  • You approach problems in an analytical way, not getting caught up in your own emotions. You are an independent thinker, not wedded to the preferences of others.

  • You tend to do things on the spur of the moment, not sticking to a set schedule.

  • Generally, you believe that you control your life, and that external forces only play a limited role in determining what happens to you.

  • If you want to be different:

  • Your open-mindedness about the world gives you a great perspective on things, but your lack of trust in others limits how close you can get with them. Try opening up to people a bit more without losing your healthy skepticism.

  • While being the life of the party will occasionally come naturally to you, be sure to reserve time for yourself¡ªsee what you can learn by spending some time observing the world rather than just by diving in.

  • I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid for Yi at her wedding this past weekend. It was a nice and intimate event, everything went perfectly, and everyone was happy :) Well, at least at the end of the day :P It's such a great feeling to take a part in the ceremony and share their joy. Also, through this whole wedding planning thing, I feel like the three of us (Yi, the other bridesmaid Chhom, and me) were a lot closer again, perhaps even more than we were back in college. That's what I'm most thankful for.

Weddings are fun! (Yet I still plan to never have one, haha :P)

Congratulations, you guys! I'm sure lots people said wonderful things already, so my advice is just... don't worry, be happy! ^_____^

Come and see more photos of the wedding! Unfortunately since I was behind the camera you don't get to see me anywhere... The photo on the left is one taken by Yi's uncle :)
